You do know it's not just Japanese numbers right? It's released in Asia also, and a huge amount of those are imported. The Japanese release itself did over 200k in the first week, but the Hong Kong release and Korea release which have ENGLISH subtitles to go along with the English voice acting have pushed the game over half a mil. You have to factor in those Jrpgs they release bomb in Japan when they would have been blockbuster sellers on the PS3. Yakuza 3 did over 500k. Demons Soul did over 500k now "amazing isn't it? The first true underground hit" and Enchanted Arms by some stroke of luck or pure lulz got to be a Playstation the best title. Even Valkyria Chronciles sold over 200k on the PS3 and that game isn't anywhere near as established as the Tales of series.

For microsoft to BE Sega, Microsoft has to do something that Sega STILL does. MAKE GAMES. Microsoft doesn't even make their own games anymore in all honesty as they rely on 3rd parties. You do know that DVD came out in 1996 right? It was on PCs and was astronomically expensive, came to players around 97-98 and still cost an astronomical amount. Only by 2000 was it starting to become cheap and the PS2 made it truly affordable compared to stand alone players which were still at least 300-400 minimum.
